Once in a while there is a filmmaker that makes something unlike anything done before. Wes Anderson has a received critical acclaim for critics, fellow filmmakers, actors, and audiences for fantastic visuals, idiosyncratic characters, and witty humor. Not only does Grand Budapest Hotel have all of these but it includes a stellar cast including Tony Revolori, Ralph Fiennes, Jude Law, Jeff Goldblum, Adrian Brody, and the legendary Bill Murray. The film is a fantastic addition to Wes Anderson’s filmography.
The premise of the film is Gustave H (Ralph Fiennes), a concierge at a famous European hotel The Grand Budapest Hotel becomes friends with Zero Moustafa (Tony Revolori), the lobby boy. The two become involved in the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting and the battle for an enormous family fortune.
The film is filled with a prison escape, romance, shootouts, witty humor, chases, murder, and mystery. It is a perfect balance of style and substance, which is something very rare. The film handles it so that you can get both instead one.
The performances in the film are fantastic. Newcomer Tony Revolori is great as the young Zero Moustafa. Ralph Fiennes is also fantastic in the film. He proves that he can do comedy just as well as he does drama. From Adrian Brody to Saoirse Ronan everyone is fantastic in their roles as the supporting cast and they’re nothing short of excellent. The film has something in it for everyone to enjoy.
