Restaurant offers great food and friendly atmosphere close to MC
It can be tough finding authentic and unique cuisine that is affordable. All too often, each block on every street is limited to the same options; like Starbucks, Chipotle, Noodles & Co., any fast food restaurant—you get the point. Fortunately, there is a delicious eatery located within walking distance of MC’s Rockville campus, Island Pride.
Formally known as Caribbean Feast, new ownership took over in July 2010. According to staff, the new owners tried to change as little as possible, to maintain the high-quality that patrons had become accustomed to.
The menu consists of standard Caribbean cuisine, which includes various curries, ox tail and Jamaican patties. However, the highlight of the menu is the jerk, which is moderately spicy. Under the old ownership, it was much hotter, which is either desirable or undesirable, depending on your taste buds.
Lunch specials are available between 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Monday through Friday; all of which are under $10. Specials include a fountain drink and side. Their sides are worth mentioning also, as the macaroni and cheese is never dry or over-cooked, the creamed spinach is excellent, as are the collard greens.
The ambiance is a simple “walk up and order” system, with cafeteria style seating. The staff is always friendly and there is a hearty, home-cooking vibe. It is a great option for any student or group of students to sneak away for lunch in between classes, or to grab dinner before an event at school.
