The Student Construction Association was named the 2014 Associated Builders and Contractors Student Chapter of the Year. “We nominated our student chapter and its a national competition so we’re competing against a lot of four-year schools who are also members of this ABC organization,” said SCA President Grisel Munoz.
The club sent the board a nomination package with everything they have done over the course of the year including pictures, agendas, meeting minutes, information about their involvement with various programs and schools, and how they conduct daily business.
“Two officers get to attend the legislative conference in Washington D.C. in June. On top of that we get a $2000 prize for our chapter,” said Munoz.
The SCA plans to spend some of the money on shirts for members. According to Munoz, there are no plans for spending the rest of the money but the SCA is considering creating a scholarship for future construction management students to cover a construction class.
The club is considering putting some of the funds toward a community service project Munoz said. “Instead of spending it on a trip or event we want to use it on something we can remember or leave for the school.”
The club will be featured in the June issue of Construction Executive Magazine.
“Everything the SCA does benefits a lot of the actual construction management programs that we have here [at MC] so that’s been [the cause of] a lot of the success that we’ve seen,” Said Munoz.
