If you have a talent you want to showcase to the MC community, attend auditions for the 4th Annual MC’s Got Talent Show. The Student Senate sponsors the talent show and the winners receive scholarship money.
Whether you are attending MC again next school year or you are transferring to another institution, winnings can be put toward educational purposes.
Auditions are being held in the Student Lounge on the upper level of the Campus Center from March 31 to April 4. Prior to auditioning, students should reserve a time slot. To do so, email [email protected], call 240-567-7177, or talk to Student Senate members in their office, CC 008. Make sure to include your name, phone number, the talent you would like to perform, and the campus where you attend classes.
Senate President Devaughn Page said that auditions are open to walk-ins. But all students auditioning need to bring their student ID.
According to Senate Secretary Alex Weidt, performances must be five minutes or less, but auditions may take longer if students or groups require setup and take-down time. The Office of Student Life will provide the basics such as a CD player, speakers, and microphones but students should specify any other equipment they need for the audition. Contestants are expected to provide their own instruments for both the auditions and the talent show. Events Committee Chair Marwah Bahanan said if students need to use a piano they can arrange for an audition in the Theater Arts building between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. any day of auditions. The same piano will be available for the dress rehearsal and the show.
Students should perform exactly what they plan to showcase for the talent show Bahanan said. Material should be age appropriate because the talent show is a family event. Each contestant will only perform once, but students can audition with multiple talents. Students do not need to worry about using music or singing song covers because OSL pays for permission fees.
The deadline to sign up for auditions is Friday, March 28.
The MC’s Got Talent Show will be held on Friday, April 25 at 6 p.m. in the Theatre Arts Arena. There is a mandatory dress rehearsal on Thursday, April 24. Selected students are required to turn in all paperwork at the meeting held at California Tortilla in the Rockville Town Center on Monday, April 14.
