Last Friday, February 10, the Montgomery College Student Senate organized their first masquerade dance. Held in the Rockville Campus Cafeteria, the dance started at 7 p.m. and ended at 10 p.m.

Although there were some expectations of a big turnout, there were not many people at the dance, totaling around 25 people. “We expected at least 80 people for this event,” said Kabura Wanjeri, President of the Student Senate. “The students every year are more involved with the school events. In the dance, the students were very active, socializing and dancing.”

The Cafeteria was decorated with balloons, and the tables had red tablecloths. On the tablecloths they had candles. It was a dark, romantic environment. They had two D.J.s on the dance floor, and there were mostly girls dancing there.

Katherine Perez, a member of the Student Senate, said that the Masquerade Dance was a fundraising event for the Talent Show, which is going to be held on April 7. “We expect more people to come, with their families,” said Perez.

The Senate made a profit of $600, and the Office of Student Life added another $500. All of that sum is going to the Talent Show on April 7.
