America’s Next Top Model or Victoria’s Secret’s next angel, April Thomas. I got the chance to ask April a few questions about her aspirations and what it’s like to be a local model.

Can you begin by telling me who you are and what you do?

I was born in (the) Dominican Republic but I am from Maryland. I am 19 years old. My major is general studies but art specifically is what I like the most.

Since when have you been modeling? How did it all start?

I started modeling in 2016. It kind of just started by my friend and I always hanging out. We would take pictures and wear cool outfits. At first, I didn’t really like taking pictures but I was always photogenic, even as a child. So, it was just something that stuck.

What’s the reason you model? Do you get paid for it or is it just for fun?

No, I don’t get paid yet. I would like to get paid in the future. I usually just shoot with my friends so, I wouldn’t charge them. Also, one day I hope that my friends can get paid for their photography. We just help each other out.

What was your favorite photo shoot?

I think my favorite photo shoot would have to be the one I did in the sunflower field. Mainly because I did two outfits. The idea just came to mind because  I was inspired by the color yellow. It’s my favorite color. It was a really hot day, I remember that. I just liked how I felt in that moment taking that picture. It was a really fun time.

Do you plan on having a career in modeling?

I do plan on having a career in modeling eventually, once I graduate from MC. I think I might be doing this forever, even if I don’t go really far. I think I will always enjoy taking pictures until I’m like 100 years old. So, I don’t think that’s ever going to change.

What are your biggest inspirations and why?

All artist are my inspiration. I see on social media a lot of artists that are hungry and continue to work on their craft. Even though they don’t get the most recognition, they don’t give up. That’s what inspires me.

Are you working on any projects that we would be looking forward to?

Yeah, I am working on a few photo shoots but I haven’t really formulated the entire concept. So, I can’t talk about because I don’t want anyone to steal my idea.

What should one know before going to a photo shoot and what’s your go-to outfit?

One thing you should know before going to a photo shoot is how you’re going to pose. You don’t just show up there and say you don’t know what to do. You need to know what you’re getting into before you go. Always bring lip gloss or a brush. On a good day, I wear the same thing that I’ll wear to a photo shoot. I am that extra! I just like something comfortable and colorful. As long as it’s a pop out outfit I’ll like it.
