CRIME ALERT: Man Charged With Assaulting Female Student in the Macklin Bathroom

According to Montgomery College Security, a man followed a female student into the 2nd floor Macklin Tower bathroom last night at around 7:47 p.m. Supposedly, he was trying to keep the female student from leaving the bathroom.

The good news is that the female student was unharmed.

Rockville Police Department reported that the man is 46 year old Yi Chong. Before the police and campus security arrived, bystanders stepped in and intervened.

Around 8 p.m. to 8:10 p.m. the police arrived and three officers arrested him and charged him with assault and disorderly conduct. According to the Rockville Police Department, Chong did not resist arrest.

His arraignment ended around 2 p.m. today and his bail was set for $50,000.

“I was out of class at around 9 p.m. and when I was exiting the building I saw police and security. They were surrounding the guy just to be sure he was unable to get away, but the guy was already handcuffed and on the floor,” said Luis Da Silva, a student who witnessed the scene.

De Silva said that both Chong and the student who intervened seemed unharmed.

According to Tara Nelson, Chong was not immediately suspicious when he entered the bathroom because there is no law prohibiting someone from entering a gender based bathroom.
