The Montgomery College Rockville Campus Anime and Gaming Club president John Boman was excited to inform his club members that they had been awarded “Most Interesting Table” at the Spring Club Rush event.
Boman’s announcement was met with a round of applause from the members in attendance who cheered a little louder when Boman also said that they would be getting pizza at a later meeting in celebration.
“And since you all showed up it looks like Santa won’t be burning all of your future presents,” he joked. Before Club Rush began Boman emailed his members and urged them all to attend to help the club gain new members. He added a measure of encouragement to his message by teasing that if they did not show up, Santa would burn all of their future presents.
When he was asked if he knew the club was going to win the award he admitted he was not too surprised.
“At our table we had a Nintendo Gamecube hooked up with Super Smash Brothers set up to play,” Boman said. He joked that he had stacked the odds in his favor. He added that he was very pleased that his club had won and was glad that so many of the current members came out in support. However attendance at meetings had been a little light but Boman said that things do go up and down at times.
Boman explained that having a strong presence at Club Rush was important for his club because that is their main source of new membership every semester.
“I have some new fliers I plan on posting around campus, but Club Rush is still big for us.”
The club generally has high member retention over the semester but still has plenty of room to grow. Boman said that the club always welcomes new members and encourages anyone to come by and hang out for a little just to see what it was like.
The Anime and Gaming Club meets Fridays at 2pm in HU 011.
