Montgomery College President Dr. DeRionne Pollard will host a town hall regarding her plans and vision for the college’s future on Feb. 5, 2019, at 2 p.m. According to The University of Shady Grove, Dr. Pollard assumed the role of College President in 2010 and has dedicated her life to enhancing the community college experience.
The event will be held at the Theatre Arts Building on the College’s Rockville Campus. The event welcomes students, faculty, staff and members of the community to discuss education and the Montgomery College student experience.
In Nov. 2018, Dr. Pollard revealed one of her most memorable experiences as a college student was when activist Angela Davis visited her college campus. The topics of the activist’s lecture created an atmosphere of excitement and debate that Dr. Pollard intends to emulate here at Montgomery College.
“I want us to have that same culture at Montgomery College where our students can hear top-flight thinkers and leaders,” Dr. Pollard said. This event does not have an announced special guest, but instead is intended to promote student participation in the development of the college’s culture.
“I will share some reflections from my sabbatical and some of the steps that are essential to planning for the College’s future,” said MC President Pollard. “Student success, radical inclusion, and social justice are all integral to the College’s identity. As we develop our vision for MC2025, courage will also be necessary as we set ambitious standards for ourselves and our students”.
