Creative Writing Club still going strong

John Bestland, the founder and president of the Creative Writing Club, discovered the new Creative Writing Club after concluding that there was not a non-intimidating literary creative outlet at MC’s Rockville Campus.

Bestland, who had just finished a creative writing course with Professor Sacksdidn’t want the class to come to an end and took it upon himself to construct this club from scratch. The club kicked off with a bang, receiving a large turnout at their first meeting—however, this would not last.

Students had begun to disappear throughout the semester, receiving a lower turnout than ever.

“The hardest part of creating new clubs is getting people to show,” said John Bestland.

Bestland refuses to give in and continues to put forth efforts, expanding the clubs horizons and opportunities. The club now includes group sessions, poetry jams, literary workshops, games, and more; resulting in a much larger turnout and greater interests. John also seeks to implement field trips into the clubs agenda, and perhaps even have members work submitted to the Red Jacket.

“I want to find a bunch of members who enjoy writing and critiquing work, that way when I leave I know that there will be that ongoing passion.”

Passion is nonetheless the driving force of this club, and students will be quick to follow.

The Creative Writing Club meets Tuesday and Thursday, Science Center room 358 from 3pm-4pm.
