As a young writer, things weren’t sunshine and rainbows. I sucked as a writer. My writing skills weren’t great at all. Nonetheless, as a communications major, I needed help in the writing department. When I joined the Advocate, I discovered how welcoming and friendly the staff was. They offered me a position as a writer, so I took that offer and ran with it. Doing so allowed my writing skills to bolster significantly.

The Advocate is a quite similar to a real job. Although we don’t get paid, we gain a lot of experience in the writing world. Furthermore, if you have a passion for working as a journalist or hope to achieve an internship in the news industry, joining the Advocate will help you achieve that goal.

Every week we write articles on top stories and go around campus to cover breaking news. So I guess it’s safe to say that we are pretty legit. I have been with the Advocate for two years now and I enjoyed every minute of it. Believe me, I was a pretty crappy writer at first. All that has changed ever since I joined the Advocate.
