The Montgomery Advocate is looking for a student to fill the Editor-in-Chief position during the 2016-2017 school year. The student-run Advocate is a dedicated public forum for the students of Montgomery College.
We are looking for a person to cover campus news, sports and opinions.
She or he will:
- be a full- or part-time student during the school year.
- protect free speech and free press, especially for students.
- encourage the expression of all students from this very diverse campus.
- have a demonstrated ability to complete tasks on deadline.
- have a strong ability to work with (and lead) students who work for the paper and website.
- oversee production and maintenance of the mcadvocate.com website and our affiliated facebook page and twitter feed (among other duties).
Although no experience is necessary, the strongest candidates will have classroom, student or professional newsroom experience, including completed coursework in any of the following areas:
- journalism or media studies
- photojournalism
- videography/broadcast media
- desktop publishing
- blogging or similar software
The editor is responsible for all parts of publication, from hiring assistant editors, writers, and photographers; to assigning stories and photos; to posting news to the website and social media pages.
