Music, chatter, and the smell of popcorn filled the air on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 as the Office of Student Life at the Montgomery College Rockville campus hosted its “Club Rush” event from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Formerly known as the Involvement Fest, this semester’s Club Rush was held just outside of the Theater Arts building on the Rockville campus. The Office of Student Life is known for its fun-filled events and student activities that enhance the sense of community at Montgomery College.
Club Rush served as a place where current clubs on the campus could advertise themselves and influence other students to sign up and join. Various topics such as club activities, club missions, and club philosophies were explained to potential new members. Club Rush not only served as a place to learn about new clubs, it was a perfect environment to meet new people and friends.
Current Montgomery College student and member of the International Studies Club, Ashis Khadka said “Well, it was a good experience. There was a lot of exposure for many different clubs. Club members were satisfied due to high volumes of new members. On top of that, the weather wasn’t that bad, as well as the music.”
Club Rush attempted to attract current students by tempting them with sweet goodies in the style of a bazaar-style buffet. Free cotton candy, Rita’s Italian Ice, and candies of all assortments were available to students and staff. Current club members advertised their clubs by using poster boards, pictures, and handout flyers. Overall, Club Rush was a great opportunity to get involved on campus, and learn about different extracurricular activities. If you would like to learn more about current clubs at the Rockville campus, reconstitute an old club, or create your own club, visit the Office of Student Life, which located on the lower level of the Campus Center in room 005. Its hours are 8:30AM-5:00PM Monday-Friday.
