On the first day of Literacy Week, the Montgomery College Library on the Rockville Campus held an open house at the Macklin Town, starting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
In an attempt to get everyone’s attention to learn more about the open house, two students, Mallory and Karen, created a scavenger hunt, where prizes include snacks, water, candy, pens, and more.

While participating in the scavenger hunt, I managed to get information about upcoming events from a librarian. Her friend, Suzanne Joseph, a student, is presenting a workshop called ‘Crafting Inclusive Research Questions’, which discusses how and why DEI strengthens the process of developing a research question.
“The information Literacy Week is a library wide initiative to help spread more information about all the misinformation that is now prevalent,” Mallory said.
Going further into this interview about the purpose of Literacy Week and what it brings to the students, Mallory explains that the expectation is to hold more events emphasizing the importance of proper research.
“This year, we do have a heavier focus on disseminating AI resources that students owe more commonly using, and how people can use AI more ethically, since it’s kind of here to stay,” Mallory stated.
