Editor Needed
The Montgomery Advocate is looking for a student to fill the Editor-in-Chief position during the 2012-2013 school year. The student-run Advocate is a dedicated public forum for the students of Montgomery College.
We are looking for a person to cover campus news, sports and opinions.
She or he will:
- be a full- or part-time student during the school year.
- protect free speech and free press, especially for students.
- encourage the expression of all students from this very diverse campus.
- have a demonstrated ability to complete tasks on deadline.
- have a strong ability to work with (and lead) students who work for the paper and website.
- oversee the production of at least 15 issues of the paper, or an equivalent production on the website, during the 2012-2013 school year.
Although no experience is necessary, the strongest candidates will:
- have classroom, student or professional newsroom experience
- have completed course in any of the following areas:
- journalism or media studies
- desktop publishing (esp., the Adobe Creative Suite software).
- photojournalism
- html/html5/css
- blogging or similar software
The edtior is responsible for all parts of publication, from hiring assistant editors, writers, and photographers; to assigning stories and photos; to collecting advertisements; to designing and submitting the paper for printing.
