Become the Editor-in-Chief of the Advocate!

Editor Needed
The Montgomery Advocate is looking for a student to fill the Editor-in-Chief position during the 2012-2013 school year. The student-run Advocate is a dedicated public forum for the students of Montgomery College.
We are looking for a person to cover campus news, sports and opinions.
She or he will:

  • be a full- or part-time student during the school year.
  • protect free speech and free press, especially for students.
  • encourage the expression of all students from this very diverse campus.
  • have a demonstrated ability to complete tasks on deadline.
  • have a strong ability to work with (and lead) students who work for the paper and website.
  • oversee the production of at least 15 issues of the paper, or an equivalent production on the website, during the 2012-2013 school year.

Although no experience is necessary, the strongest candidates will:

  • have classroom, student or professional newsroom experience
  • have completed course in any of the following areas:
  • journalism or media studies
  • desktop publishing (esp., the Adobe Creative Suite software).
  • photojournalism
  • html/html5/css
  • blogging or similar software

The edtior is responsible for all parts of publication, from hiring assistant editors, writers, and photographers; to assigning stories and photos; to collecting advertisements; to designing and submitting the paper for printing.
