Palmata is a 17-year-old student at Montgomery College who majors in Biological Sciences. She came to the United States from Cameroon in 2016 but started her academic journey at MC in 2017. I sat down with Palmata in the cafeteria and had an opportunity to hear about her thoughts on MC and how it is different from her school in Cameroon.

“When I started school at MC, I was so confused with the buses I had to take to get to school. I got used to it a week after school started; however, the environment at MC was convenient for me to study, so at least one thing was going right. I feel like the students are not very sociable, and the teachers do not encourage students to associate with one another. Everyone walks around with earphones, so they cannot even hear me when I say hi. I am not used to that type of behavior because back in Cameroon, as long as you are in the same class with someone, you are bound to have a conversation with that person. The students need to interact more and be more open. With that said, I love the fact that there are so many resources at MC. I never have to worry about a particular class because I always have a place to go to for help and wonderful people to see me through my struggles. If you are looking for a college that you are guaranteed to excel in if you put in the effort, MC is the place for you. I promise you will feel the love and support because I do.”
